About Maureen

CIYT Introductory 2

Maureen’s first yoga class was in a church basement in Squirrel Hill in 1991. Since then, she experimented with different styles and types of practices. After an injury, she discovered Iyengar yoga and the power of the practice to heal and transform the body. Since then, there has been no looking back.

Maureen became an Iyengar Certified Yoga Teacher late in 2015 and enjoys bringing this practice to her students. She finds that yoga practice yields both rewards and challenges and is definitely a lifelong journey. The process of becoming certified was humbling and illuminative and she is grateful for her teachers who patiently saw her through. She considers Sara and Christina her primary teachers, but is ever grateful to those she studied with in the early years (Colleen Gallagher [FL], Racquel Miller-Graham and Judith Lasater [OH], Pamela Ryan and Elaine MacGillicudy [ME]) who set her on the path and planted the seeds. She has also studied under Dean and Rebecca Lerner in State College, PA. and attended workshops with Senior Iyengar teachers Lois Steinberg and Manuso Manos. She was thrilled to participate in the 2016 Iyengar Yoga Convention in Boca Raton and receive the teachings of Abhijata Sridhar Iyengar, the granddaughter of B.K.S. Iyengar.
